Introduction of UTM Interactive Map

INTRODUCTION

In this assignment, we are going to make an UTM Interactive Map. This software provides information about various things in UTM, such as locations, upcoming and ongoing events. The software can be accessed with the kiosk machines that will be placed in various places in UTM.

This software will guide user who wants to explore the UTM, or who wants to obtain certain information. The software also has a UTM interactive map. This can help users who can’t find their way to their destination. This is especially important to visitors and new students/staff. We still remember how we were lost when we’ve just arrived in UTM, we were unable to know where the faculty is, how to get there, or where the registration will take place. This software will help people like us. The software will inform user where his current location is, and user can select their destination by entering the name, or by selecting from the related event. The software will then inform the user where the location is, and how to get there by highlighting the route on the map.

The software will also display details about a certain building when user clicked on the corresponding building on the map. The software will give information on the name of the building, the block, what kind of building it is, and events that are taking place in that building (if there are any), in addition, the software will also display a picture of that building. Other than that, the software can also display the locations of certain places, or services. For example, when we are looking for an ATM, we can input what are we looking for to the machine, and then the machine will mark the locations of ATMs in the UTM. This also can be used to find other services, such as cafeteria, taxi stations, barber, supermarket and so on. After the location has been marked, we can select which one that we want to go, and the software will map out the route. The software can also calculate which one is the nearest to our current location based on the route that can be taken.

The system has a search system where user can enter the name of the location and the system will display the information about the location. User can also perform the search using the event name or faculty name. The software also provides information about UTM bus schedule, the system will inform the user when the bus is going to depart from its station, and which route it will take. User can also query for the current location of a certain bus. The system has a GPS system that can track the locations of the busses, so that the user can predict when is the bus will arrive.

1. To help people who can’t find their way to their destinations.

2. To help people find the shortest path to their destinations.

3. To help user in exploring UTM and know UTM better.

4. To inform user about the current and upcoming events in UTM and their location.

5. To help user in finding certain services.

6. To give information about transportation in UTM.

TARGET AUDIENCES

The main target of the system are the visitors/new students that aren’t familiar with UTM. But students may also use the system to find information about certain events. Other UTM citizens can also use the system to get the information they need. User should know how to operate machines like ATM, as the system use similar interaction system.
