Comparison Between Existing Applications and Our System

PROBLEM IN EXISTING APPLICATION

Most people uses a physical UTM map or a GPS to find their way in UTM, but it is not suitable to be used in this case. One of the reasons is because a physical map doesn’t provide information about the current location of the user, and while a GPS does, but a GPS has a very wide range of map, so it doesn’t provide specific detailed information about UTM. And for users that drive its own vehicle, by using a map, we are unable to know which route that are we are allowed to use, because some of the routes are one-way or closed during certain hours. Other than that, we also can’t search for a certain building or events.

Here are some comparisons of the reasons:

Physical UTM Map

GPS

Users are unable to know their current location

User can know their current location.

Provides more specific and detailed map.

Provide wide range of map, but not detailed.

Doesn’t provide information on the route to the destination.

Provide information on the route.

Provide information about services area (such as ATM, restaurants, etc)

Doesn’t provide information about services area.

Doesn’t provide information about any events.

Doesn’t provide information about any events.

Provides some brief information about the buildings in UTM (very little).

Doesn’t provide any information about the buildings in UTM.

Doesn’t provide any search system.

Doesn’t provide a detailed search system.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS

Based on the result of our questionnaires and interviews, we noticed that most people don’t like to refer to a map when they are lost. Mostly because they are unable to know their current location. Because of that, in our system, we will provide information about the current location of the user. Other than that, mostly people are informed about upcoming events because of notice that are pasted everywhere, but usually they don’t read it carefully, and when they want to read It again later, they would have problem where did they read it, so they try to ask their other friends, which is troublesome. So we will also provides information about the events. People also had trouble in finding the nearest ATM and bus station. And Visitors and new students often had trouble in looking for a place to have their meal, and taxi stations, so we will also provide information about the services too. In addition, we will also provide information about the buildings in UTM and the routes around UTM.

Here’s the comparison table
